QSR Magazine Talks Why Franchise Size Matters with Which Wich

The world is a different place today than it was 10, 15, or 20+ years ago. People feel busier than ever, either working longer hours or exploring new hobbies with gusto. The time needed to sit down and eat at a restaurant, spending an entire night there, is harder and harder to find for most.

The shift in culture is showing clearly in the world of restaurants, too. Larger sit-down restaurants are riskier now because they require a large initial investment, a large staff, and a large commercial footprint to build – and all for what appears to be a shrinking market potential. That’s why franchises like Which Wich are staying ahead of the game to put more focus on smaller shops.

The popular QSR® Magazine recently featured Which Wich to discuss why smaller franchise locations are starting to mean bigger profits and better business. Early last year, Which Wich showed up in London with a comparatively tiny 700-square-foot franchise location. Compare that size to larger restaurants that can take up to 20 times more floorspace and you’ll see a real difference, which is being reflected in the market.

Small London Shop Spells Big Franchise Success

The London Which Wich location launched with a huge success, despite it being quite small in terms of actual size and staff. The promise of a small franchise location bringing in big bucks is looking so good thanks to London, Which Wich told QSR Magazine that further international expansion for the franchise is now on the table. In heavy metropolitan areas, like what you might find in some of the world’s most famous cities, opening a full-sized restaurant might never be an option. But a smaller location with streamlined processes is far more possible.

Of course, this is not the definitive end of larger restaurants, or even larger Which Wich’s. Our sandwich franchise company leaders are constantly studying markets and market trends. Entrepreneurs who want to join us with a new location of their own can count on us to help find a functioning market opportunity, which could mean planning a shop big or small. Our focus has always been on helping our franchisees succeed and spread the joy of a great sandwich to people the world over, and we aren’t changing that any time soon.
